Bob is still very sick. He has been bleeding when he is suction for a few days. They have decided today to call in another doctor to try and determine where the bleeding is coming from. Outside of this problem (which is very serious) his blood work is looking good. They are going to give him more blood today and having a outside doctor come in. He is still setting up in a chair each day.
Keep him in your prayers

second day sitting up
Dad sat in a chair again today, this time for about 3 hours. He was on 70% oxygen on the ventilator for about 2 hours of this time, which is a low setting for him lately. When I left this evening, he was on 100% oxygen on the ventilator, but his bp was 85, which is very low for him, and his oxygen saturation was 98%. So we are hoping they'll be able to take the ventilator support down sometime tonight.
Dr. Yaeger told mom today that dad is progressing. I haven't noticed much change in dad's swelling over the past couple of days though, and they're still getting blood out of his lungs when they suction him. Also, he's getting a lot of support from the vent. He's awake during the day, and he looks around the room as if he's aware of his surroundings, but he rarely responds to commands or attempts to communicate. Despite obvious concerns, he is making some progress. Hopefully this will continue without further complications arising.

Bob is out of the icu. He is still having some major issues with his heart rate and oxygen level. They have ruled out any major heart problems at this time. We still do not have all the cultures back to find an anwer to his infection. They have stopped the weening at this time and may start back on Monday. It is going to be a very long process due to the fact he was very ill when we got to denver from Baptist East. Thanks again for your prayers and concern.

update january 2 2011
We have transported Bob to Denver Colorado were John lives. He is at Kindred Hospital Denver. We made this choice after much research as to the best place to beable to remove the ventilator. They have a different approach to weening off. Bob was very sedated at Baptist East Hospital and they are having to remove his medicine very slowly to get him awake so they can start the weening. We transported him by medical air jet on December 29. John and I came on the plane with him. Doctor Yeager belives he has made some progress in the few days he has been here but it is going to be a very slow recovery. If you would like to sent Bob a card please mail to John's address.
